For three months I have been doing everything I can to prepare my body to be the healthiest place possible for a precious baby from God (hopefully soon).  After reading article after article and praying a lot, I believe I have some powerful things to share with hopeful mothers!  First and foremost, we need to recognize that God is the author of life, and He has the perfect time in mind for our pregnancies.  That said, sometimes no matter what we do, our Father is in control and we have to remember to always lay all our desires down at his feet. If you’re at a point where maybe you’ve been trying for a long time now, I hope you will find encouragement and know that all things are possible through Christ.  He knows our frustrations; He knows us intimately…”But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.”-Luke 12:7.  God will bless you with a bundle of joy in His perfect timing, so trust in him and do not fear.  Once our spirits and hearts are in a healthy place, it is so important that our bodies are healthy as well. Since trying for a baby, my passion for health has grown immensely.  The honor of bearing life is a huge blessing God has given to women.  It’s incredible that He formed our bodies in such a unique way that we can house the formation of a child. That being said, think of your womb like a house. Just like you get a baby room ready in your home (which by the way, I can’t wait to do!!), let’s get our physical bodies ready for the baby before it’s in our womb! While trying to get pregnant I have done the following things to prepare my body (and I think you should too if you haven’t already!):

1) I have detoxified my body from refined sugars and preservatives. Man alive was it hard, but I feel 100% better!! If at first you don’t succeed, keep trying! The biggest key to being successful is to throw out anything in your house that contains refined sugars or preservatives, and to never buy anything with that garbage in it again! Refined sugars and artificial sweeteners have been called “poisons” by many doctors because of their extremely harmful characteristics and because they drain and leach the body of precious vitamins and minerals through their demands on digestion, detoxification and elimination. [1]  To put it shortly, sugars are empty calories that aren’t properly processed by our bodies.  Replacing refined sugars with healthy sugars from fruits and vegetables will improve fertility for you and your spouse.

2) I have increased my intake of fruits and veggies. Fruits and veggies have tons of vitamins and minerals, and they are also abundant in antioxidants which help promote a healthy immune system. I drink a smoothie that is made up of a banana, 3-5 strawberries, 8 ounces of water, and a tablespoon or chlorophyll every morning, maybe an apple for a snack, a big salad for lunch, and some type of veggie with my dinner. I try to make my salads and dinners as colorful as possible, because the most colorful fruits and vegetables often pack the most vitamins! Isn’t God super cool that He made the prettiest stuff the most packed with good nutrition? I supplement my diet with tasteless liquid chlorophyll, a substance derived from alfalfa leaves and other green plants, because it improves fertility due to its high quantity of antioxidant and body-purifying nutrients.

3) I’ve tried to drink at least 60 ounces of water a day. The easiest way for me to remember is by hauling around a water bottle with me everywhere I go! Invest in a really nice bottle with measurements and take it with you everywhere.  If you’re like me, you need a reminder to drink water, and if it’s always with you, you’ll remember! Drinking plenty of water is crucial if you want to improve fertility. When your body lacks water, your reproductive organs can’t function as effectively.  So, keep your water bottle full and handy at all times! [2]

4) I bought myself some great herbs! Take a drive down to your nearest health food store and invest in a fertility supplement! A few of the best herbs you want to look for are: Chaste Tree Berry (it helps reduce hormonal imbalances; it also stimulates the action of pituitary gland, increasing progesterone and luitenizing hormone production, which helps to regulate the menstrual cycle.) Dong Quai (amazing herb with tons of benefits!), and Damiana (strengthens reproductive glands and helps balance hormones).

I hope these tips will help you improve your fertility and your overall health.  Many blessings on your journey of baby making! Relax, have fun, and know our awesome Jesus is in control!
